SILENT MOVIES
I have been improvising to silent movies since 1979 in a variety of venues from universities and museums to film series and festivals. Rather than replicate vintage sounds, I use a synthesizer to bring a modern feel that blends smoothly with the screen action. My repertoire includes over 25 films and I'm always anxious to add new ones upon request.

teaching method
My piano lessons typically last for an hour or more. Students follow a method of write it; see it; say it; play it. The concept is to learn to apply harmony using a variety of chord structures so that over time a player's musical voicings come quickly and spontaneously. This method of teaching builds a strong foundation and allows the basis for improvisation to be firmly rooted in the player's hands.
